olu, feel free to edit or add on however you see fit!
So, I was talking with olu several days ago, and I've read posts around here and remember the chatbox conversations about working up some kind of role play here. This section is looking rather lonely, so I thought...why not make a thread for some plotting/idea feedback and such, and see what happens? Anybody but us two interested in a multifandom rp?
Rules and plot need to be worked out. OLU had two very interesting plots I'll let her explain, because I don't want to muddle them up, but feel free to cast your own ideas/suggestions/etc into the fray as well. After all, if we want a rp with multiple fandoms and people in here to garner interest and work, we have to be open to what you guys want.
So, level with us (probably after olu posts her plot ideas lol), and tell us what you think. We'd love to get an awesome rp going here soon, but we also want to know how to do it right so there's more than 2 people playing the game. (and i know everybody is busy busy, multiple sites, life, etc. So you wouldn't need to worry about too quickly, there'd ;probably have to be a posting order so nobody goes insane and buries people in 2 pages of posts or anything like that.)

Thanks! I think you touched on everything just fine though.
Idea A: I was thinking of a treasure hunt/or exploration thing being organized, and our characters signing up for it. Then it'd be all EPIC ADVENTURES and so forth.
Idea B would be all of our characters winding up stranded together on a desert island.
Both have a lot of potential for character interaction, IMHO. Anyone find either idea interesting? Have anything you wanna add, even a plot idea of your own? Jump in with your five cents then!

I've been thinking recently, and after seeing the previews Shauni posted for her nifty forum Chromia, I'd like to attempt another go at having a RPG forum someday. However, if someone else wants to come along and adopt this idea and make their own forum, I won't object. But if you do, I have two requests: please let me know, and please stick to the guidelines I have -- no adult cartoons, etc.
Plot-wise, this RPG would be a retooling of Animasia's plot. A magical character (for some reason, I was thinking Mozenrath, but that isn't concrete) futzing around with some powerful magics inadvertently creates a wormhole that warps them along with characters from other animated properties away to a tropical desert island. They have to adjust to living there while trying to figure out a way to return to their own dimensions. I think one big island environments might be a little more organized then having multiple ones, plus, the survival thing ups the action/danger aspect of the plot.
It's also going to need a totally new name. So what do you guys think? I welcome any feedback, suggestions, criticism, etc.
mwuahaha i have catalyzed upon you. >D I actually really like this idea! I loved animasia, but I'm okay with something a little more organized like that. Plus, as you said, it does help up things and poses interesting questions onto what the characters would do in a situation like that. It's intriguing! I do have a question though..I think I know the answer to this already, but I just wanted to make sure. This would be an all kinds of canon animation forum like animasia, right? Or were you planning on downsizing the ones allowed? (i know that obviously there are some shows that definitely don't want chars from, but I was wondering if it'd still be fairly freeform in that way, or you'd cut back more on who was allowed due to there being less places.)
I'd totally of course join. XD There are so many chars I'd love to play I never get the chance to. On names, I'm afraid I suck at those, so I've got nothing yet. But if you need any help with anything, just give me a shout!
Also, if you want, I have an account on rpg-directory specifically for looking at the coding for the skindex site skins. So if you went invision and wanted one of the premades from the rpg skindex, and the codes weren't available on the preview site, I could help you out with grabbing said code. I'm afraid invision is still too tricky for me, the reason I don't do too much fancy coding on mine beyond what the person left notes for, but....They make some really pretty skins for invision, so. x3

XD
Thank you, I'm happy you like it!
Also, I was of the mind that the island everybody's stuck on is located in the Bermuda Triangle, which would keep the chars with superpowers from escaping.
Yes, all sorts of animated chars from film and TV would still be permitted, and I'll very likely be open to allowing ones I don't like, like "Total Drama Island" and its 100 spinoffs for example. If allowing them can get me more members, then why not?
I've been talking to L (Sir Justice over at DL) about this idea, and she said a possible problem with it might be some pple not being familiar with some of the other chars and being reluctant to thread with them as a result. Which I do recognize, but I'm willing to take that risk. Hopefully there'll be so many different chars around eventually, those kinds of pple will be able to find at least a few chars to thread with.
I'd be glad to have you on-board, of course. =D
I'm thinking of maybe starting work on this forum little by little when I have the time. I appreciate the offer. I was thinking about going with Proboards, but I think I will try Invision instead. They are some really pretty skins for it, and it seems really popular. I'd like to look at some application templates and stuff like that too.

Unfortunately, the forum would be canon only, I'm afraid. I'm eager to do this myself. Maybe we could play a variation of this idea here for now, and that could involve OCs.
Some of the forum names I've been playing around with:
"Devil's Triangle" "Tempest Tossed" "Trapped in Paradise" "Uncharted Desert Isle" "Time/Dimension-Wrecked" (instead of shipwrecked) "Uncharted" "Stranded" "Toon Island" (L's suggestion)
That's a good idea! Since yeah, you know some people would just love to abuse chars with superpowers doing things like that, and it also works for interaction with non-powered chars. Even evil super powered characters would be forced to not go all crazy on everybody, since they might need them for shields, or to begrudgingly help find a way off.
Well, yeah, it could get more members, but...>.> We don't want people like with the chowder incident all over again..whiny babies like that are just, augh. L does raise a fair point, because that does seem to be a problem in multifandom- heck, this was a problem over on Fantasmic (..along with jerks), but I know I didn't get a lot of threads because, beyond Mirage, my chars weren't one a lot of people knew. But I agree with you that it's good to take risks- you never know unless you try, right? And there's a lot of fun in multiple fandoms, you can get all sorts of crazy, zany, fun as heck stuff.
And people can always invite likeminded members who enjoy the same fandom and get more members that way, if they feel bleh about it. Maybe even having a wanted characters ad and the like list open for guest viewing, so members can say who they'd like to see, would help lure people. If nothing else, it helps see what people would like to see around the parts.
8D I'd be glad to come a-board, captain! *shot for horrible puns*
Hey, working at your own pace is the only way to do it. But take screenshots and everything, as i'd love to see the progress as it goes along. x3 That's true, application templates can be awesome as well..I can't recall if there are any on rpg-d, I've only stuck to lurking at the advertised sites and skindex. I should probably look around.
My favorite of the names is the first and second.

Exactly! It's more interesting to see pple playing a variety of chars instead of ones from the same fandoms (which is also a problem at places like Fant and Ink Splat).
I admit that while I understand the desire to thread with chars you know, I don't see why someone would be intimidated about threading with a character you don't know much if anything about. Back at Animasia, I didn't really know a thing about Luffy, the char Moomba had, but went ahead and threaded with him anyways because i thought it'd be interesting, and enjoyed it.
And I was definitely thinking of having want ads for chars. Leaving it open for guest to post in is good idea. Plus, I was thinking that in the apps, pple could also include a link to some video footage of their char or something. You know, so other pple could watch said char in action.

Will do. XD I had an account at RPG D and at Caution, but I'm sure they've been long since closed down. I might register at one of the smaller RP directories to get goodies or something.
Well, I think you definitely came up with a good idea for it. Lol but boy will everybody be pissed at the char responsible for it.
LOL! This, pretty much.
HAH. powers mean nothing to the triangle!

Very true, it's fun to see some characters in action you never get to see, and be forced to put the ones you're playing through brand new scenarios they'd never come across in their own respective canons. That is a problem at sites like that. I mean, I can understand it on some level as well, and I do actually enjoy having characters from the same fandom on the site so I have the option to thread with them as well, but i'm also with you. I really don't get why it's such an intimidating or unappealing thing to thread with chars outside their fandoms either. I mean maybe if you just didn't happen to like something like say, total drama island, and dreaded it for THAT reason I can understand...but to shy away just because you don't know the show as well/at all? Why do you need to? I think more role players need to take a page from your book there, because it can turn out a whole lot of fun!
I think those are all great ideas. That way you're covering a lot of bases, and hopefully things don't seem so foreign or 'scary' to people.
At least it wasn't a "Lost" joke. XD
lol no, there are plenty of thoseee, i didn't want to make one. XD

I dislike how that happens on sites like those, but I suppose inactive accounts do have to be cleared away ever now and then. And good idea! They do have some good goodies...I just hate how in some of them, you need to make like 50 posts or something before you can get at the coding.
Well, that's a vote for "Devil's Triangle" and "Tempest Tossed". I added two more name ideas.
Hmm, i still cast my votes for those. Though uncharted and stranded aren't bad either. And it does depend on what's available domainname wise, since even invision won't let you use certain names if boards with them already exist.

I don't know? Pple are more comfortable with what they know, I guess? Still tho... don't be scared to expand your horizons folks, seriously!
Thank you, hopefully you're right. And here's hopingthat we don't get anyone like Chowder Fanboy showing up again.

Yeah, I want to avoid the RPG resources like that. Seriously, who wants to or has the time to hang around some forum and make 50 posts there? It's like "Look, just let me use this crap so I can work on my forum." What are some of the better sites to join up at?

Well, with the way things are looking, it's very likely going to be one of those names. Hopefully no one taken them yet!
So far, there's going to be subforums for the beach, an oasis on the island (so there'll be fresh water for everybody), and a jungle. What would be some other good sections to have?
You bet they will. XD That character is not going to have an easy time of it on the island.
Hahaha, well maybe that will teach them a lesson about meddling with some forms of magic and the like in the future.

I suppose so, but you're right, expanding horizons is fuuuun! People need to be more adventurous with their characters.
I hope sooo! And hahah, I wish I'd seen this person, they sounded like quite a riot, even if completely aggravating.

That's probably a good idea, because it is a little ridiculous of a quota. I know I sure don't! I join those things to look at and use the pretty coding that is beyond me, I kind of resent the fact there are help sites that won't let you even look at/use the help, until you putz around their forums enough. I didn't join that forum for the socializing aspect.... And unfortunately, I don't know what some of the better sites are. ;n;

I hope not! That always complicates matters a bit. XD
Hm. *strokes chin thoughtfully* Maybe some volcano something or other, if it's that kind of tropical island, and/or some mountainous area, uhm.....Maybe the ruins of some kind of abandoned village or ancient 'city', so that some of them oddly enough have a place to stay, temples or something, a weird kind of spot like that?

I was doing some thinking about this particular character. I want him/her to be played be a mod, since they're fairly important to the plot and I can't think of any characters fitting the bill that I could convincingly play. I've been thinking of a couple of pple to approach for this position. Don't suppose you'd be interested, would you? If you busy with other stuff, that's totally fine.

Those are good ideas, especially the abandoned city. That could come in handy for some interesting plots. I also thought about having a section for playing non-canon events, like maybe things that happened to the characters before they came to the island, or AUs.
What else... I've also been trying to think of good member titles (I keep wanting to call senior members "Robinson Carusos"). And do you think pple should be allowed to play character doubles? Like say, someone wanted to play the Optimus Prime from the 80s cartoon, but then someone else wants the "Transformers Prime" version. Would that get too confusing?

And I'm not really busy with too many things, but I do admit I'm having a similar problem like yours trying to think of a character who could have done this that I could play and give them a reason to. Hm, have you asked any of the other people you've been thinking about?
I found one that wasn't too big, but I wonder how much coding they really have and if it's good stuff. It doesn't look like you have to fulfill a posting quota... z15.invisionfree.com/La_Dolce_Vita/index.php?act=idx
Hmm...They have some great icons and manips and everything, but I haven't seen a whole lot of coding yet. Of course I haven't looked all around, but lack of YOU MUST POST ALL THIS ROAR is always enticing!

That's what I thought! Though I will admit I got the idea from having seen a disney crossover where the chars wound up on some strange uninhabited island with all sorts of things like that. That forum has been dead for a long time, but I think those are neat ideas for places, especially with so many character types allowed. Maybe some caves would be cool too? XD you never know who needs a cave! And I like the idea for a non-canon section like that, because it opens the door for even more possibilities for fun. I say yes!
XD that would be an awesome member title, hm....But for other ones, idk, I'll have to think. And personally, I like to only allow one version of a char, if they span many fandoms, just because it does seem to get confusing or weird sometimes to allow too many. But some people like that sort of thing, so I think it's all up to personal preference. If it would be too confusing for you/something you're not sure would be okay and might go wrong, I would say make a rule against doubles. If you don't mind them however, then let them roll!

I'm tempted to ask to see that forum just because I'm curious about what those pple did with the idea, but I don't want to be subconsciously influenced or whatever by it. Maybe after I finish working on TT.
Okay, caves and non-canon RP sections are a go!

Thought on it, and I made a rule against char doubles, with the exception being ones that are widely different from each other, like the 80s Ninja Turtles vs. the new versions.
